Assam Congress Suspends 14 Leaders Over Anti-Party Activities

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has suspended 14 party leaders and functionaries for six years with immediate effect over their alleged involvement in anti-party activities during the 2026 Assam Assembly election . The suspension order was issued by APCC General Secretary Ramanna Baruah following directions from Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi . The suspended leaders include several office-bearers of the Silchar District Congress Committee, Assam Youth Congress, and party units in Sonai. Those suspended are: Samsur Rahman Choudhury , Vice President, Silchar District Congress Committee Aktar Hussain Barbhuiya, Vice President, Silchar District Congress Committee Mojibur Rahman Choudhury, Vice President, Silchar District Congress Committee Ajmol Hussain Laskar, General Secretary , Silchar DCC Shaine Ahmed Laskar, General Secretary, Silchar DCC Mehboob Hussain , General Secretary, Silchar DCC Ijaj Laskar, General Secretary, Assam Youth Congress Committee Hanif Alam Mazumder, General Secretary, Silchar DCC Altaf Hussain Laskar , General Secretary, Silchar DCC Najib Ahmed Laskar, General Secretary, Silchar DCC Jahur Choudhury, General Secretary, Minority Department Kadir Ahmed Laskar, General Secretary, BCC Sonai Ansar Hussain Barlaskar, former President, District Minority Department Rakib Ahmed Mazumder, President, Youth Congress, Sonai Constituency Six-Year Suspension According to the order, action has been taken against the 14 leaders for their alleged involvement in activities against the party during the Assam Assembly election. The suspension will remain in force for six years from the date of the order. Copies of the order have been sent to senior Congress leaders, including AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal, AICC General Secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh, APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, the Assam Congress Legislature Party leadership, APCC office-bearers, and the party’s media and social media departments. 55 Kg Cannabis Seized at Guwahati Railway Station, 3 Held

Guwahati: Three persons were arrested after the Guwahati Government Railway Police allegedly recovered 55 kg of cannabis from Guwahati Railway Station , according to a report on Wednesday. The seizure was made during a checking operation conducted by a GRPS team at the railway station. The suspected cannabis was reportedly found in the possession of the three accused, following which they were taken into custody. According to the initial report, the latest seizure comes amid stepped-up action by Assam Police and other enforcement agencies against the illegal transportation and distribution of narcotic substances across the state. The report said police and enforcement agencies have increased checks and targeted operations at railway stations, highways and other important transit points to prevent the movement of drugs. As a major transport hub connecting Assam with other parts of the Northeast and the country, Guwahati has remained an important focus of such operations. Authorities have also intensified surveillance and interception efforts as part of the state’s wider campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse. The latest seizure has also highlighted the use of transportation routes for allegedly moving illegal drugs. Police have launched a further investigation to determine where the seized cannabis came from, where it was allegedly being taken, and whether other people were involved in the suspected supply network.
