Dhubri, Sept. 9: Two farmers were killed after being struck by lightning while working in their agricultural fields near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam’s Dhubri district on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Kedar Part-III village under the Golokganj sector. The deceased have been identified as Moslem Uddin and Abul Hussain, both residents of the village.

According to local sources, the two men had crossed the border fencing through Gate No. 51 to reach their fields located in the no-man’s-land area on the other side of the fence. While they were engaged in agricultural work, a severe thunderstorm lashed the area and a lightning strike hit both of them. They died on the spot.

Personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF), along with a team from Golokganj Police Station, reached the location after receiving information about the incident and recovered the bodies. The bodies were later sent to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The sudden deaths have cast a shadow of grief over Kedar Part-III village, leaving the local community in shock.
